Torches are passed and holy cow I think I'm in trouble!!!

Yesterday afternoon Ciera and I were baking cupcakes for Tienna's first birthday today and, as every child does, she asked if she could lick the beater when I was done.....so we each took one and enjoyed this age old ritual together. Suddenly it dawned on me......in a year or so I have to make a decision.......either give up on licking the beaters when I am baking as Tienna will also want one (yes I always still do this even when I am baking alone, c'mon admit it you do it too), or start baking at night!!! Hmmm....I think I will start baking at night :-)

After we ate dinner, Ciera decided she was going to feed Tienna her dessert....baby peaches, I assumed (wrongly so this time) that Ciera had offered as she also wanted to eat them (she likes to "taste" the baby food), but she fed her, had lots of laughs and she then cleaned up Ciera and the highchair too!! This is what memories and bonding are made from :-)

Then as I was cleaning up Ciera went off to play while Tienna hung in her playpen for a bit, I heard Ciera coming around the corner and this is what I saw......

yep my daughter gets some of the oddest ideas, and I have no idea where they come from....when I ask I am told "I thought of it in my brain"....ummm.....yeah ok.......for the uninitiated she is wearing the Run for the Cure t-shirt she got for coming with me on the run in 2009 (she wears it all the time even though it is an adult size small) , the knight helmet she got for Christmas and the safety goggles that came with her "work bench", and her Spiderman silly bands, she is also riding the Winnie the pooh "car" she got when she was 2 and hung on the front is her Batman mask.....I can only imagine the outfits this child will wear to school when she is 13....my tongue will be sore permanently from biting it daily!

Snow day!!!

This past Wednesday we had a snow day, ok, not officially but I called it...sometimes "it's good to be the king!". Truth be told, we were all tired and needed a sleep in and quite frankly I didn't see the point in spending an hour to make what is usually a 20 minute drive to daycare/school. So we all slept in and hung out in our jammies until around 11:00AM when Ciera said "can we go tobogganing?". The roads had now been plowed so what the heck, we piled on all our outdoor gear, I packed the kids into the car, added in our toboggan and the little sled for Tienna, then I shoveled out the end of the driveway from the plow and off we went to our favorite hill.

Tienna fell asleep on the way there (10 minute drive!) so that worked in our favour, as when we got there I told Ciera to be quiet getting out of the car, got our toboggan out, locked the car and voila we were at the top of the hill. The parking is right at the top of the hill so I could always see the car from where we were.

The plus side to being there at 11:30AM on a school day is there is hardly anyone there and with 6 inches of fresh snow it was great!! Ciera and I did several runs (I'd go to the car every few runs to see if Tienna was awake) and then we'd go again. My caveat this year was I told Ciera she now has to walk up the hill, no free rides up anymore :-).

We had an absolute blast, swooshing down the hill, laughing ourselves silly, snow blowing up onto us, falling off at the bottom!! Ciera made snow angels,we threw snow at each other. Ciera kept saying "I want to go by myself" but I wanted to go too!!! I did relent and let her do some runs on her own, it took her forever to get back up to the top though.

Finally Tienna woke up so I put her in the baby-boggan and pulled her down the milder slope, she loved it, Ciera would start out beside her and then we'd go one way and Ciera would continue down the hill. Ciera wanted her and Tienna to go down but I had to nix that one.

All in all we were out for about 2 1/2 hours and we had so many laughs and so much fun, I think we all needed that day together......no where to go, nothing to do but just laugh and have fun, bonding for all of us.

On the way home Ciera asked "what day is it today again?", I told her "Wednesday", she replied "can I stay home every Wednesday?"....hmm no I don't think EVERY Wednesday but we'll do it again.

At ballet that night she told everyone "Guess what I did today? I went tobogganing"....apparently she told everyone at daycare too. She totally ratted me out!!

Ah well....it's only kindergarten and I think right now working on being a family is pretty necessary and she will catch up fine on her school work.

P.S. Yes I know I still need to do some catchup updates...I'm workin' on it!!
