A big sister in the making....

Tonight while we ate our chicken soup for dinner (Ciera is recovering from a bout of the flu) while watching TV Ciera said "when our baby tries to stand on one leg I will hold her so she won't fall" I smiled and said "that's nice of you honey", and she continued as I knew she would "and when she falls I will make sure she is ok and I will hug her and you can take a picture of us"...wow when did she get so sweet?!! On the other hand she has also mentioned several times she wants the baby's name to be...wait for it......Mr Baby! I've told her several times that's not going to happen but then she mentions it again with that glint in her eyes.

We were away overnight this past weekend with some friends, Ciera and their daughter, Victoria, go to daycare together and the girls are great friends. At bedtime when they were both in bed, Ciera climbs out of her bed and heads over to Victoria's, when I asked her what she was doing I was told "I'm going to tell Victoria a story", she climbs onto Victoria's bed and proceeds to tuck her in and tells her a story about a Princess and a Superhero complete with "the end", as this was going on Victoria's mom looks at me and says "she's going to make a great big sister", I hope so. I know there will be jealousy and sibling rivalry but for the most part I hope they get along and are friends...for life.

This weekend saw my little girl grow up a bit more...Ciera lost her first tooth. Her two middle bottom teeth have been loose for awhile and on our way to Niagara she was talking about them and the tooth fairy and she mentioned that putting a tooth under her pillow would the tooth not get lost, so I thought about it and I told her we would find a special bag with the word "tooth" on it to put the teeth in and then the tooth fairy could take the tooth and leave her money. Ciera thought this sounded great, little did I know it would happen that night. We got to our hotel, met up with our friends and headed into the water park. A heads up to anyone headed to the Americana DO NOT stand in front of the kid slide area by the wave pool, the enormous pineapple that fills with water, when it dumps out it packs a punch and creates quite a wave when the water hits the ground, so much so that it knocked Ciera off her feet onto her stomach (it got her from behind), this was not a good introduction to the waterpark, she scraped her foot ("it's blooding" she cried) and it scared the heck out of her, and I thought that was it. I calmed her down and a few minutes later we headed into the wave pool, she was bobbing along in her life jacket when she cried out "my toof!", I looked at her and said "what about your tooth?" and I noticed her mouth was a bit bloody "my toof!" she says again and I looked closer and it was gone. I was sad...I was hoping to save her first tooth....Nathalie went back up to where Ciera was knocked down hoping to find it, but I knew it was gone. There was no way one tiny little tooth would be on the ground with all the water washing by, Nathalie came back "no tooth". Ciera was worried about the tooth fairy but I told her that the tooth fairy would still know and still come. All night long I heard "mom why did I loose my tooth?", she even woke up in the middle of the night "mom" "yes Ciera" I replied groggily "why did I loose my toof?" "because you are growing up, now go to sleep!!!". In fact she's still asking and loves to look in the mirror to see it missing. She has told everyone one she's seen and talked to on the phone about it. Even this morning when I called daycare to say she would not be in as she had the flu (a lovely cap to our weekend!!!) she had to talk to Mrs. Galea to tell her that she went to the hotel and lost her toof!!!

They really do grow up way too fast.....

Okay, she even looks older in the photo!!!!
Wow, what an eventful weekend. I hope she is feeling better.
Ciera will be a wonderful big sister. I love how important holding up someone when they are standing on one foot is to an almost 5 year old. WE forget how important these things are, it is so good to be reminded.

Hi Diane,

Thanks for the comment on my blog (www.louannsadoption.blogspot.com) about Ciera's surgery to have her tonsils & adenoids out. It's such a relief to hear about another child that has had the operation since most people I know had it YEARS ago. I can hardly wait until she sleeps through the night again (which means I will too!)

On another note, how is adoption for #2 going? You should be on your way pretty soon right? Is your next child also coming from Karaganda? Is your agency Children At Heart or is it a Canadian based agency? I'm thinking about #2 and hope to start again soon. Of coures I need to get Lexie (and me) through her surgery next week! Thanks again for checking in on us. I look forward to following your story back to Kaz!
